Menu for penguins!

Penguins are animals that live in very cold parts of the earth so they need to eat things that are pretty cold; they basically eat krill (a shrimp), squids, and small fishes. The preference of food depends of the penguin species, but is almost the same. For example the penguins that live in the northern part use to eat more small fishes than penguins in other regions.
Emperor and king penguins prefer eat squids and fishes.
The quantity of food penguins eat depends of variety and available food and the time of the year. For example a colony of 5 million penguins may eat 8 millions kilograms of krill and small fishes daily.
The way that a penguin hunt is a mystery but many scientists think, penguins has an special ability to communicate and for see in completely darkness, because most of times penguins hunt in the night. But in hard times penguins need to swim long distances in order to find food. Emperor penguins that are a big penguin need to travel up to approximately 1,500 kilometers in a single foraging trip to find and hunt food for survive.

Penguins also have a period called fasting where penguins has they annual molting periods so they eat less food, during this period penguins are develop new plumage to became adults and this process end once the molt is complete, sometimes this process is very complex for some penguins that stared very young, but there are other penguins that adapt to this process very quick. This process may be complete in a period of 60 to 120 days depending also to the weather and external conditions of each penguin. In the process the penguin create a layer to protect the upper pair of there body that would help them for the whole life.

The penguins were some of the first animals in the earth this is around 60 millions years ago, now they can’t fly but millions of years ago they could, now their wing turn into a accessory for a better swimming, they can swim over 30 miles per hour, and leap put of water almost 7 feet. From the very begging they exist, they where living in Antarctica, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and as far north as the Galapagos Islands. Emperor penguins are one of the two types of the seventeen kinds of penguins that are native to Antarctica. They live mainly in water and come on land to mate and breed. (¨BBC news, Pourly penguins in zoos¨)
Penguins are one of the most popular attractions in zoos, this make penguins one of most favorites for kids, the problem of having penguins in zoos is that they get sick and die easily. The cost of having penguins in a zoo is one of the higher and they need a lot of medical and environmental cares. United Stated is the country with most penguin’s zoos or aquariums there are seventeen dispersed around the whole country. Saint Louis Zoo is one of the largest zoos in the world it is located in Missouri, USA and it has several penguins species such as, Emperor Penguin, Gentoo Penguin, Rockhopper Penguin, and Humboldt Penguin. But the affirm that the harder to take care is Emperor penguins. The bad news for some penguins is that some zoos are not well designed for being an habit, they don’t have enough space or the water isn’t as cool as it should be. (¨Lincon park news¨)
Penguins around the world have been changing and adapting to new habits but now they need to adapt to zoos this could change some characteristics and way of life for penguins.

Emperor Penguins Way of Reproduction

The emperor penguins are mostly the biggest penguins around the world, and the reproduce in a special way. The penguins need eight years to have a sexual mature. In the sexual act the penguins start making sounds and inter chancing sees, most of the times the male star with the communication. The emperor penguins are a monogamous species because they just have relations with one partner. Some studios said that the female penguins return to the same male penguin each season for the rest of their life, the only event that can change this is if one of the couple dead.

The penguin’s nests are usually around eight to ten stones perimeter, just to prevent eggs to move and crash. The only different penguin that don’t make nest is the Emperor penguin that in cubed a single egg under there feet. The penguin’s eggs must be white or greenish.
The incubation is the process to have the egg ready to enter in real world, the penguin needs to warm the egg before it hatches, in the case of the emperor penguins the used to left the male penguin alone to incubate the egg while the female goes to the sea, after some weeks the female penguin return to see the egg hatch. During this process the male penguin loose the 45% of his mass.
The fist cause of egg fail is the dissertation of the male penguin, this occurs when the penguin loose the illusion to see the female penguin again.

Emperor penguins special animals

The emperor penguins are name like that because they are the biggest and heaviest penguins they usually food is compound of fish and crustaceans, they high is 1.25 meters, also they can be identified from other penguins for they color, in dorsal side and the head are black, and in the breast they have some yellow lines and a white circle. They have flippers for a marine habitat but they just can be 18 minutes under the water and diving to a depth of 535 meters, but in order to get this depth they need to suspend some of they non-necessary organs functions. The emperor penguins also can support low temperatures, the air may reach -40°C and wind may reach 140 km/h, the water is almost ice it have a temperature of -1.8°C approximately, this is some of the reasons they have a very warm plumage. Most of the emperor penguins live 23 years but some are registered with 48 year.

In my personal opinion I can say that the emperor penguins are a very especial animal because it have some characteristics that cant be find in any other penguin or animal, also I thing that we should be more conscious of try to take care of the oceans because all the trash we trough is going to the poles and this damage the penguins environment, other human problem that damage penguins is global warming because as we all know the global warming melts poles and the penguins as the polar bears and some other animals are loosing their environment.
